Metoclopramide Hydrochloride (Vominorm) is a prescription antiemetic and prokinetic medication used to treat nausea, vomiting, heartburn, and slow stomach emptying.
Metoclopramide Hydrochloride (Vominorm) is an anti-sickness medicine. It helps you to stop feeling or being sick (nausea or vomiting).
It can also be used to treat heartburn, acid reflux (GERD), and stomach symptoms caused by slow stomach emptying (gastroparesis).
Metoclopramide Hydrochloride (Vominorm) is sometimes used to help prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or after surgery.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you:
- have ever had an allergic reaction to metoclopramide or any other medicine;
- have stomach or intestinal bleeding, a blockage (bowel obstruction), or a tear (perforation);
- have a tumour on your adrenal gland (pheochromocytoma);
- have epilepsy or a history of seizures;
- have ever had movement disorders, involuntary muscle spasms, or tardive dyskinesia;
- have liver, kidney, or heart problems, or high blood pressure;
- have Parkinson's disease, depression, or asthma.
Metoclopramide Hydrochloride (Vominorm) may not be suitable for elderly people or children under 1 year of age. This is because there is a higher risk of side effects, such as movement disorders.
How and when to take it
Always follow your doctor's instructions when taking Metoclopramide Hydrochloride (Vominorm).
Take it when you need it to help with your symptoms, usually for short periods of time.
It is best to take Metoclopramide Hydrochloride (Vominorm) before meals and at bedtime. Take it about 30 minutes before you eat.
Take a tablet whole with a drink of water. Do not crush or chew it.
Dosage
The usual dose for adults is one 10 mg tablet.
You can take Metoclopramide Hydrochloride (Vominorm) up to 3 times a day, if you need it. Space doses evenly throughout the day, leaving at least 6 hours between doses.
Missed Dose
If you forget to take Metoclopramide Hydrochloride (Vominorm), take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one at the usual time.
Never take 2 doses at the same time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
Overdose
Taking too much Metoclopramide Hydrochloride (Vominorm) can be dangerous.
If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, you may feel unusually sleepy, confused, or experience uncontrolled muscle movements or spasms.
If you need to go out, do not drive yourself. Get someone else to drive you or call for an ambulance.
Side Effects
Like all medicines, Metoclopramide Hydrochloride (Vominorm) can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
More than 1 in 100 people will feel sleepy, tired, restless, or dizzy. These common side effects are usually mild.
Serious side effects are rare.
Tell a doctor straightaway if:
- your face, tongue, arms, or legs start moving in an unusual, twitching, or uncontrolled way;
- you experience severe muscle stiffness, high fever, or confusion;
- you feel unusually depressed, agitated, or have suicidal thoughts.
